First Time Visitor’s Guide
Blog Description
The PLS Online Course Development team will use this blog to share what’s happening with new online courses. We’ll also point out research behind our instructional design, examples of online learning, and innovative uses of technology.
How To Subscribe
If you’d like to automatically get an update every time we post new content, consider subscribing. If you’re new to blogs, it’s probably easiest to subscribe by email. Detailed instructions can walk you through each step of the signup.
If you’re more experienced with blogs and already use an RSS reader, feel free to subscribe to the RSS feed. If RSS is new to you, read RSS: Controlling the Flow of Information for an introduction.
Why a Blog?
If we just wanted to share updates on new developments in online courses, we could create an email newsletter. Newsletters are one-way communication though, and this blog allows two-way conversations. We’re writing a blog because we want to hear from you. Interacting with readers and other bloggers on these topics really helps us to expand and clarify our thinking. What we want (and what most bloggers want) is for readers to engage with us. Comments and questions are very much welcome and encouraged.
In fact, why don’t you start interacting right now by briefly introducing yourself in the comments below. Do you have any questions about our online courses? Ask away!
Finding Content
You can find content in several ways. Blogs are arranged in reverse chronological order, with the newest posts at the top. This makes it easy to find recent news and updates.
If you’re looking for something on a specific topic, try the search at the top. You can also use the Categories list on the right, just above the PLS logo.
How to Comment
- If you don’t see the comment space (look for “Leave a Reply”), click the link for comments at the end of a post. If you’re the first commenter, this link will say “No Comments.”
- Type your name. If you don’t want to use your full name, you can use your first name and last initial or just your initials. Whatever you enter here will appear publicly.
- Type your email address. This will not be visible to anyone other than our team.
- You can leave website blank (although if you have a blog, Flickr page, or something else you’d like to share, we’d love to see it).
- Type your comment.
- Click Submit Comment.

Christy,
Wow, this is great! I am a recent addition to the PLS instructor ranks and am in the process of exploring all of the options and supports PLS provides.
I recently retired and am just beginning “career 3″, which includes being a PLS instructor. I am a long-time “collector” of information. I love learning and reformatting what I learn so I can share it with others.
This is such great information . . . on blogs and wikis. Being a “veteran” educator, I need to step into the 21st century a bit more! The PLS Online Course Development Blog will really help me on my newest journey. Thanks so much!
Welcome to PLS! We’re so glad you stopped by the blog and left us a comment. I think it’s terrific that you’re using this opportunity in “career 3″ to incorporate technology into your lifelong learning journey.
Is there anything in particular that you’d love to learn more about? Perhaps we can provide some information on a specific technology or use for you.
