One of my favorite movies growing up was ”The Wizard of Oz.” The visual transition from black and white film to color was a clue even for a small child that “we’re not in Kansas anymore!” The Tin Man, Scarecrow and Lion may have taken the role of supporting cast, but it didn’t take Dorothy long to realize how much she needed their help in order to return home. While Online Course Development is not trying to return to Kansas, we are on a journey. For us to reach our destination of quality online courses, we, too, need the assistance of many others in the company. We can create interactive, engaging courses, but where is the benefit if no one knows about them?
This month the Online Course Development team decided to share the work and thoughts of three people within PLS who help support what we do. To start us off, we asked Carla Minks, Director of Marketing, to share her perspective and new strategies for marketing online courses.
From Carla Minks:
The Marketing Department is gearing up to tell the world about online courses available through PLS. The month of March will be the kick-off of a strong campaign to promote online courses. So, watch your inboxes! Regardless of your geographic location, expect to receive an introduction to all that is online with PLS.
§ If you have been an avid on-site participant, you may not know all that PLS offers in online courses. Does your schedule require flexibility and convenience for those graduate courses you need or want to take? Consider online this semester.
§ If you have been a dedicated online participant, don’t stop now. If you are interested in pursuing your master’s degree, many of our online courses have been included in partner programs.
§ If you are new to PLS, consider our convenient and effective online courses that can be taken anytime, anywhere. Seriously! Our participants rave about the immediate applicability of methods and strategies learned in the traditional classroom, and you will not sacrifice that outcome when you choose to go virtual.
We continue to update and manage the Google text ads that have been active for some time, and hope to add complementary online advertising on appropriate Web sites. If you favor a particular online education-specific Web site, please share that URL with the PLS Marketing Department so we can include it in our research for serious consideration.
Many thanks to Carla! Being a “best kept secret” is not the way for PLS to reach the Emerald City. So, do we need a wizard? No, just a savvy Marketing Department that adeptly communicates our message. Do you have questions about how marketing supports online courses or suggestions for promoting PLS online? We want to hear from you!
